How to setup Mailerlite like Convertkit?
March 25, 2018

As a small business owner, you probably wear a lot of different hats in the early stages. You want to learn every aspect of your business. That’s why squeezing every single penny and maximizing profit are the success to your business, at least that’s every entrepreneur’s dream, right?

Why I switched from Mailchimp to Convertkit to Mailerlite?

At first, I was recommended by a friend to Mailchimp because it was a major brand known to be free. But, I went from Mailchimp to Convertkit.

Here’s why I first switched? It was recommended by my favorite blogggers and they offer a thirty day trial. You can read more about their program on Make Money Blogging for Beginners.

The move was pure bliss, as I had to export a small email list and import it toward my new home. They made the migration simple for a blogger (early internet marketer) like me. Ease of use was high on my list as well.

As a matter of fact, it took me less than a day (ahem… a few minutes) to understand the concept of sequence emails and a broadcast.

What’s the difference, you asked?

Well, sequence emails are chain emails, they are a series of emails that span several days. These emails are setup ahead of time. My lead magnet is tied to a sequence, go ahead and sign up.

You might get a surprise bonus!

What’s a broadcast email? It is usually one and done. It is like a typical email that you’ll send.

You can write a simple email or ask complicated questions to your users. This is where you can create segmentation or tags your users (for more advanced users).

My list is growing and I myself haven’t utilized these features. But it’ll come in handy as your list grows.

As my list grew, so did my email count. The great thing about Convertkit is that you won’t have to worry about this.

Emails are unlimited!

As in Mailchimp there’s a cap of 2000 users, but it is free. So I am you, I’ll stick with Mailchimp for now as your list grows, but be weary of the 12000 emails you get free per month.

What does that mean? It means if you have a list of 2000, you’ll be a able to send out six emails that month, you have reached your quota.

What if you need to send another? You can’t! That’s why you can’t set up a sequence of seven or broadcast that you have a sell, you’ll need to wait for next month.

Anyhow, I made the switch from Mailchimp to Convertkit and loving it. The move is simple too, all you have to do is to export your list and import to the other one.

If you like to give Convertkit a test drive, then check it out.

I thought that was it? I thought I was staying with Convertkit forever, but I was wrong?

How I went from Convertkit to Mailerlite?

As I was typing up a post recommending how much I loved Convertkit, I discovered Mailerlite and decided the last minute to switch email marketing service. It was simply because they got a better and FREE offer!

The moved was harder than I thought. You could only export 30 users at a time from Convertkit, and they only email you this list for security purposes.

After exporting all 61 of my users, I have import them into Mailerlite. That’s a cinch! Where did the sequence and broadcast went!?

Like the Rubik’s cube, hopefully I can help you solve the complexity of your nightmare puzzle.

First you want to create a new group. You can do it here: Select Subscribers -> Groups -> Create new group

Next create an automation workflow, like so…

You would want to daisy chain your emails in your automation.

Finally, you can migrate your sequences with  email automation.

And Broadcast are like Campaign email.

Why I chose Mailerlite for a test spin?

My 30 days trial was up. Although I love Convertkit, I love saving money more as a start up entrepreneur. My mom would be proud of me. It was a way I could stretch a dollar and buy more coffee.

If you have the funds or the money, or not tight like a struggling entrepreneur, I suggest you keep your subscription with Convertkit. The migration could be a pain and I like the simplicity and ease of use.

If you are like me and pinch every penny in the early stages, then switch.
